Therapy FAQs
We offer in-person therapy in Center City, Philadelphia and virtual therapy for adults in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Our approach is trauma-informed and integrates EMDR, ACT, and IFS-informed therapy. We’re an out-of-network practice.
Getting Started
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes. We offer a free consultation so you can share what you’re looking for, ask questions, and get a sense of fit before scheduling.
How do I get started?
You can request an appointment online or call 410-302-4038 and leave a message. We’ll schedule a free consultation and talk through what support would feel most helpful.
What happens in the first few sessions?
In the beginning, we’ll focus on what’s bringing you in, what you want to change, and what you want therapy to help you feel or do differently. We’ll also talk about pacing and approach—especially if you’re coming in for trauma work or have felt overwhelmed in therapy before.
How often would we meet?
We ask new clients to begin with weekly sessions at the start of therapy. This helps build momentum and consistency. As things become more stable, we can reassess together whether biweekly sessions are a good fit.
Location & Virtual Therapy
Where are you located for in-person therapy?
We offer in-person therapy in Center City, Philadelphia, in a private office space that is wheelchair accessible and ADA-compliant.
Do you offer virtual therapy (telehealth)?
Yes. We offer virtual therapy for adults located in Pennsylvania and Maryland using a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.
How do I decide between in-person and virtual therapy?
Both can be effective. In-person therapy can be helpful if you want a dedicated space away from daily distractions or prefer face-to-face connection. Virtual therapy is a good option if you need flexibility, live outside Philadelphia, or prefer meeting from home.
Fees & Insurance
Do you accept insurance?
Flourish Psychotherapy is an out-of-network provider. Payment is due at the start of each session. If you have out-of-network benefits, you may be able to receive reimbursement by submitting a superbill to your insurance company.
Can I use my out-of-network benefits?
Possibly. If your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, you can submit a superbill for potential reimbursement. We can provide monthly superbills upon request. Reimbursement depends on your plan and often on your insurer’s “maximum allowable rate.”
What do therapy sessions cost?
Session fees range from $65–$230, depending on the service provided. We’re an out-of-network practice.
Do you offer a Good Faith Estimate?
Yes. If you are self-pay (or not using insurance), you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for expected costs.
Therapy Approach & What We Treat
What concerns do you help with?
We specialize in helping adults navigate grief and loss, anxiety, trauma-related concerns, and other emotional challenges. Many clients come in feeling like they “look fine” on the outside but feel overwhelmed, stuck, or on edge internally.
What therapy approaches do you use?
Our work integrates evidence-based approaches including EMDR, ACT, and IFS-informed therapy, within a trauma-informed, gender-affirming lens.
What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they feel less activating in the present. It can be helpful for trauma symptoms, triggers, and patterns that don’t shift through insight alone.
What is ACT therapy?
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) helps you build psychological flexibility—so you can relate differently to anxious thoughts, reduce avoidance, and take values-based steps forward.
What does “IFS-informed” mean?
IFS-informed therapy helps you understand different “parts” of you—like inner critics, people-pleasing parts, or shutdown/protective responses—so you can feel more grounded, clear, and less pulled around by old patterns.
How long will I be in therapy?
It depends on your goals and what you’re working on. Some clients want focused support for a specific issue; others want deeper long-term work. We’ll collaborate on pacing and revisit goals as you make progress.
